We are in the thick of things as they say with the economy still struggling to make a come back. It's a good thing. Now is the time to learn a thing or two about being frugal with your money. It's money that you worked hard for. Why give it to someone else?
Let's talk about your computer. The wonderful contraption that has stormed it's way into our existence making itself virtually irreplaceable. Does it really have to be on 24/7? Are we so impatient that we can't wait just a minute (that's ONLY 60 seconds) for it to boot itself up in the morning? Our society has become so addicted to the fast-paced responses that most people leave their computers on all night and day without a break.
You can place your computer in sleep mode which will completely save you an incredible amount of power or you can set it to completely shut off after a certain period of inactivity. The computer is not the only thing that you should look at to control the power settings on - don't forget about the peripherals that are hooked up to your computer as well. The printer, scanner, fax machine that so many of us can't live without need a break too. Make sure that all of your goodies are plugged into a power strip and turn off the power strip. This will make sure that energy is not used even when your computer and sidekicks are off.
So tonight while checking your windows and doors don't forget to visit your electronic counterpart and put it to sleep too. That's right - SHUT IT DOWN - it will turn on again in the morning.
